Morton Ide, 82, of North Haven, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at St. Raphael’s Hospital, New Haven, surrounded by his wife of 59 years, family and friends.

Mr. Ide was born at Grace Hospital, the middle son of Rachel and Edward Ide of New Haven.

He attended New Haven schools and graduated Hillhouse High in 1948. He lived in North Haven for 50 years.

Mr. Ide was an X-ray technician with United Nuclear Corp. for many years and later worked in quality control for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, retiring in 1995. In 2007 he was awarded for years of service as a poll worker in North Haven.

In recent years he also worked with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Gregarious and outgoing, Mr. Ide enjoyed travel with his dear friends.

An avid fan of the N.Y. Mets, the N.Y. Giants, and UConn Huskies Girls Basketball, he also enjoyed history and researching his family ancestry.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Brookstein Ide, three sons: Stephen (and wife Deborah) of Norton, Mass., Daniel of North Haven and Marcy Kramer, David (and wife Amy) Ide, of North Haven. He was the brother of Paul Ide (and wife Cheryl) of Monroe and the late Robert Ide.

He was a loving grandfather of five: Jared and Rachel Ide of Norton, Mass., Lauren and Katelyn Ide of Orange and Samantha Ide of North Haven.

Services were private.
