Thanks to Dean Schwartz’s 3-goal first half hat trick, the Amity boys soccer team opened its season with a 4-1 Southern Connecticut Conference inter-divisional victory over Career/Hillhouse Tuesday afternoon in Woodbridge.  Justyn Broderick opened the Spartan scoring when he found the net with 11 minutes, 52 seconds gone in the first half. Joe Babbitt picked up a assist on that score as he headed the ball on net from the corner and Broderick knocked it home. Schwartz followed with goals at 14:13 (with help from Ian O’Brien-Cannon), 20:53 (assisted by Broderick), and again at 29:41 (set up by Aaron Cooper). The losers’ lone tally was recorded by Shem Emelki at 59:02 of the second half. Amity held a wide 24-5 edge in shots. Goalie Jeff Curtin made 3 second half saves.

“I thought we played well enough to win our first game,” said Coach Mike Marchitto. “We’re still getting used to playing together and we have a lot of work to do.”

On Friday, the Spartans booted Jonathan Law by the same 4-1 margin. Ricky Mayer put the Black and Gold onto the scoreboard at17:45. The Golden Eagles matched that score with Jon Costa’s goal at 29:48 but Amity retook the lead when Joe Guerra found the range at 36:00 to give his team a 2-1 halftime lead. Guerra (with help from Babbit) made it 3-1 at 42:04 and Schwartz closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 72 minute mark.

“We’re starting to come together and played well against Law. It was a big improvement over our first game. I thought we dominated play and controlled the ball 75-80% of the game.

The 2-0 winners outshot Law(now 0-2)  24-5.

Amity is back in action Tuesday with a 7:30 PM SCC contest at West Haven.
