The Board of Selectmen received a request for funding for a banquet to recognize the West Haven “East” All Star Little League Softball team that went to the World Series in August. The team included girls from Orange, West Haven and Milford.
First Selectman Jim Zeoli checked with the Mayors of West Haven and Milford about their plans, and learned that neither town was going to fund the banquet with taxpayer’s money.
Zeoli said there is a little money in the cell tower account, but using it to help one winning team and not doing the same for all the other excellent teams in town would set a new precedent. (And they would be overwhelmed with requests).
The selectmen agreed to follow suit with the other towns — not provide taxpayers money — but to recognize the team at a future selectmen’s meeting.
