Joe Guerra scored twice and teammate Jon Sutton added and 2 assists as the Amity boys soccer team defeated East Haven 6-2 Friday afternoon at the Yellow Jackets’ Crisafi Field.
The Easties opened the scoring by inadvertently knocking the ball into their own goal with 3 minutes gone in the game.
Following that “own goal” the score remained 1-0 until the Easties tied the game on a score by Ronnie Quezada at the 25 minute mark. The deadlock lasted 9 minutes when Guerra scored (with help from Sutton). East Haven answered again with Brian Lucarno found the net at 38 minutes.
With the score again deadlocked at 2-2 at the end of the first half, Amity totally dominated the final 40 minute session. Ian O’Brien-Cannon (set up on a feed from Sutton) snapped the tie with his goal at 46 minutes. Now leading 3-2, the Spartans added goals from Dean Schwartz (48 minutes), Sean Bealieu (with an assist from Austin Duffy at 70 minutes, and Guerra (from Schwartz at 78 minutes).
The winners outshot the ‘Jackets 13-6. Jeff Curtain recorded 2 saves and Griffin Volta made 1 stop.
Amity visits Shelton Monday in a 7 PM contest at Finn Stadium.
