Walter Yakimovich, age 92, of Stratford, formerly of Orange, entered into rest on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine Schlonske Yakimovich.
He was born in New Haven on Feb. 22, 1920 son of the late Thomas and Helen Kupa Yakimovich and was an Orange resident for most of his life until moving to Stratford in 2001.
Walter was the Plant Superintendent for Federal Paper and Board until his retirement in 1982. Walter enjoyed fishing, boating and working in his yard and was a terrific handyman.
He was a member of the Shelton Senior Center. He was a avid Boston Red Sox fan and UCONN sports fan. Walter’s greatest joy was being with his family.
He is the loving father of Walter J. Yakimovich and his wife Janis, and Patricia E. Mondin and her husband John, loving grandfather of Michael, David and Larissa Mondin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas and John Yakimovich.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby.
On Monday, friends are invited to go directly to the Holy Infant Church, 450 Race Brook Rd., Orange for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
His burial will follow at the Orange Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shelton Senior Center, 81 Wheeler St., Shelton CT 06484.
