Make that seven wins in a row (six against Southern Connecticut Conference opponents) for the undefeated Amity girls swimming team. Coach Todd Rainey’s girls defeated Hand High of Madison 92-84 Tuesday night at the Orange Community Center Pool.
The meet got underway with Lady Spartans Shannon Early, Lydia Pokluda, Brittany Smith, and Dana Grindall combining for a winning time of 2 minutes, .99 of a second. That victory was followed by similar results in the 200-yard freestyle (Madeline Snow—1:59.34), 200 individual medley (Jessica Kochiss—2:22.74), 50 free (Natalie Ambrosey—27.30), diving (Amanda Craig—217. 35 points), and the 100 butterfly (Lindsay Morton– (1:03.53).
The Tigers’s Caroline Wolek took the 100 free in 58.69 but Amity bounced right back to win both the 500 free (Smith—5:42.25) and the 200 free relay (Hannah Babbitz, Kochiss, Snow, and Anna Lu—1:48.83.
Once again with his team holding a big lead, Rainey chose to have it swim the final three evens exhibition (non-scoring).
This loss to the Lady Spartans drops Hand’s record to 8-2.
Amity is back in action on Thursday when it hosts Sacred Heart Academy of Hamden in a 7:30 p.m. SCC meet at the Orange Community Center Pool.
