New Year’s Day Arrestees

The Orange Police Department received a complaint of numerous gunshots in the area of 848 Derby Ave. at 12:07 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Upon arrival, officers were met by an unnamed witness who stated a male attending a small party at the first floor apartment had discharged a handgun into the air outside of the residence numerous times. Officers ordered the occupants of the first floor apartment outside and began an investigation.

According to the report, police were told that two party goers had locked themselves into a bathroom. Officers ordered the occupants out of the bathroom and observed drugs in plain view on top of a hamper.

Matthew Barr, 23, one of the occupants of the bathroom, admitted the drugs were his, and was placed under arrest without incident.

Further investigation revealed that Jonathan Edwards, 24, admitted to firing his handgun fourteen times into the air while standing in the front yard of the residence.

He led police to the handgun, a .40 caliber Sig Sauer P250, located in a closet.  He was also arrested without incident.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident

Jonathan Edwards,  24, of 26 Ryan Ave., Stratford, was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, second-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree breach of peace.

He was held on $5,000 bond.

Matthew Barr, 23, of 203 Barnum Terrace, Stratford, was charged with violation of probation possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and possession of marijuana.

He was held on $10,000 bond.
