The Orange Police Traffic Authority discussed two potential traffic dangers that had been brought to their attention recently.
Traffic Light Request
1) Chief Robert Gagne reported that a young mother had voiced her concerns about the intersection of Route 34 and Baldwin Road near the Stork Club.
According to Gagne, she said the intersection was dangerous and needed a traffic light
Since Route 34 is under state jurisdiction Gagne contacted them about the request and is still waiting for a response.
He’d checked the accident history for the intersection over the past 5 years, which totaled 23 accidents many ‘near that area including deer strikes’ along with several that occurred directly at the intersection.
The subject was tabled until next month
Roadside Memorial
2) There is a roadside memorial on the west side of Derby Milford Road in the 600 block, for which police had been getting complaints of it being a distraction. Also it is on a narrow section of road with a lot of curves.
Gagne said the complainant said she was driving northbound when a southbound car almost hit her, and she can only speculate that it’s because cars were parked on the side of the road to visit the memorial.
Officers have been checking the area and determined that the memorial is off the road on private property reportedly with the homeowners permission.
The Orange Police will continue to look into this situation, ask the homeowner what can be done and try to reach a compromise.
The subject was tabled until next month.
