The Orange Plan & Zoning Commission met tonight at Town Hall for what turned out to be a very short meeting. The one item that some residents have been curious about for some time regarding amending zoning regulations for the use of fun houses, etc.

The item was tabled and will be continued at the next meeting.

Residents fined for violations

As the commissioners reviewed the minutes from the last meeting, Zoning Enforcement Officer Paul Dinice said a lien had been placed on the Cuzzocreo property on Edison Road which had been in the news a majority of last year.

Related to that, EJC LLC, was doing excavation work within 20-feet of the Aurora property line on Edison Road. Dinice said he already had an abatement order issued so the fines will continue to accrue (thus far an estimated $22,000) Denice has spoken to them.

Additional legal action will be taken and the commission may seek an injunction. The TPZC will invite the violator to come in and explain himself.

$150 per day, per violation

The commission continued its months long conversation regarding the Rogers family properties. Dinice said on Feb. 2 an abatement was issued – Rogers is ordered to pay $150 per day fine per day per violation (unregistered vehicles) on Old Grassy Hill Road.

Rogers also is being fined $150 per day per violation for a storage unit and car parts and unregistered vehicles on his Orange Center Road property.

Denice spoke to Rogers’ Attorney Stephen Studer, a senior partner with Berchem, Moses and Devlin of Milford, regarding the  case.

Both Commissioners Judy Smith Morgan and Paul Kaplan said Studer is a reasonable man, hinting that he may be able to help make some headway.

Unattractive View

The commission received a complaint from a Fieldstone Village resident whose outdoor view overlooks a construction site in the development.

Dinice said a berm and evergreens should be planted as soon as possible to improve the view for this resident.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The homes here cost between $369,900 and $479,900.

Zoning Map

Denice said the new Zoning Map is 90% done, should be ready to be reviewed and adopted by early May. The map will be posted on the Internet when it is complete.

Dinice said the commission should re-approve the map as well since it will be different and much better than the current map.

Galvin Pool Site

There is a proposal for a new restaurant at the former Galvin Pool store space which will be discussed at a future meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
