A Message from Amity Principal Charles Britton regarding Electronic Cigarettes:
Parents, we need your help. We are happy to report that we have effectively eliminated cigarette smoking in the building and bathrooms. We are now confronted with a new challenge.
There is a product on the market called an “Electronic Cigarette.” This is a device that allows students to ingest nicotine through water vapor. It is battery powered. Students exhale water fumes that are noxious.
Legislation is being developed to grapple with the legality of this product for students under 18. The high school administration considers this a tobacco product. It is entirely inappropriate for use in school.
We will discipline students who we find in possession and/or using the product in school or at school-sponsored activities.
Electronic cigarettes are unsafe and unfit for consumption by Amity students.
Parents are asked to discuss this with their children, and assist us in our efforts to eliminate this product from Amity Regional High School.
