Officers responded to the Carlson Road area regarding a disturbance on May 17 at 1:35 p.m.
Officers learned that Erik Pate, 19, of 79 Dalton Street, West Haven, had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, a juvenile, in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop store. During this argument, both parties physically struck each other, then ran from the area when police began to arrive.
Officers were able to find them both a short distance away, and both parties attempted to mislead officers about Pate’s identity.
His true identity was eventually confirmed, and investigation revealed that he had an active arrest warrant from the New Haven Police as well as a protective order barring him from having contact with the juvenile female.
Both parties were taken into custody and charged.
Pate was charged with second-degree breach of peace, criminal violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer’s investigation.
He was held on a total of $11,500 bond pending arraignment.
The juvenile’s information cannot be released due to her age.
